I wouldn't risk it. Those things can be dangerous if not applied by a skilled professional. You can leave little pockets of air and dirt and bacteria can get in there and you could develop a fungus (think about it, fingernails are one of the dirtiest places on your body). I had a friend who developed a fungus on her nails because of little air spaces left between the real nail and the acrylic one and she had to get injections into her nail beds for like 6 months to get them fungus free. Her nails are now the ugliest things I've ever seen and she can't do anything about it.
Hire someone 20 bucks to have it done (if you really want to-they're kind of out)
