You see a lot in the movies (similar to Gong Li's in Curse of the Golden Flower, for instance), but I'm looking for more information on them; what they're called, where they originated, where one could find them to purchase, etc.

Nail extensions! Which do you prefer?
Natural or French Tip?Nail extensions! Which do you prefer?
I prefer french gel overlays...they are sometimes referred to as pink and whites. I prefer this type of nail because the white portion of the french doesn't chip.Nail extensions! Which do you prefer?
Natural , french tip looks chavvy and tacky (no offense)

As a nail tech, sure I could tell you what you need to do this. But it would be wrong for me to do that if the person has no training in this area. A lot of things can go wrong when applying nail enhancements. If you really want to do them yourself, I would suggest that you take nail classes at an approved school and learn the proper way. This is not something that someone with absolutely no experience should be doing at home. Either get the proper, and thorough training, or go to a reputable salon to have them done. Avoid the 'discount' salons which are notorious for safety and sanitation violations. These places can easily be identified. Usually they are 1) Very low cost - $15-25 for a full set, and $10-15 for a fill, and 2) Do not require an appointment, 3) Most of the time, a 'discount' will be Asian owned and operated. I do not mean to be racist here in any way, but this part is a fact. If you walk into a salon and you notice a language barrier - as in you have a difficult time communicating with the nail techs, then you are most likely in a discount salon, 4) Location: Strip malls, street corners, most have a big red neon sign in the window that says, 'Nails' , 5) the places are usually visibally dirty, they don't practice good sanitation and disinfection procedures. Most will use the same files and other implements over and over on customers, and not bother to properly wash, then disinfect them implements. In the case of nail files, they should be wash, and soaked in a sanitizer for at least 10 minutes. If they are of the type that cannot be immersed, then they must be used only once, then thrown out. DIscount salons ignore this 99% of the time, and do not properly clean their equipment, files, etc. which leaves you open to exposure to infections of all sorts. 6) If getting a pedi, make sure that the bath has been properly disinfected prior to even putting one toe into it. Discount salons almost never disinfect in between customers. This is really dangerous because you could quite easily catch some nasty infections, among other things if it had not been disinfected between each, and every single customer. Look out for those places, trust me! They are simply not worth the few dollars you save by going to one of them.Doing my own Nail extensions?

air extension- can look trashy if not properly taken care off. but when worn cute like (scene hair :) they look really super duper.

Please be careful because my nailbed got ruined. you can get fungus. but i wore them for years Acrylic square but it depends on how your nails grow. I now have very soft brittle nails tend to grow longer in the summer but winter nothing keep them very short for my line of work also. good luck

Depends on where you are. You need a solution to remove them properly, if you have that then it can be done at home. Can be bought in the beauty wholesalers
One word- Acetone!!
Soak until the nails go all squishy, usually for about 20-30 minutes and they should easily come off.
If your having trouble try using a buffer, this will coax the nail off.
Soak your nails in acetone nail remover. It will take a long time, but the gel nails will dissolve. Your nails will look bad for about a month or so. Keep clear nail polish on them (Sallie Hanson makes a good one) and they should be fine.
if u have nail polish remover with acetone init soak yr nails in this it should help lift the nails, buff yr nails with a nail buffer then use a good hand cream daily
Buy some acetone and put it in a bowl then put that bowl on top of a bowl of boiling water. Let your fingers soak in the acetone for a while, it should then peel off easily.
You need to soak them in pure acetone for ages.
Take each hand out and scrape the now peeling gel off with a rubber nail hoof.
Put each hand back in the acetone and repeat each stage.
When all the gel seems to be off file lightly over the top of the nail put some oil on the nail ideally Solar Oil if not olive oil will do and put on nail strenghthener now every day and the oil as your nails will be very weak for a while.
It is best to get the nails off professionally or at least let a proffesional take a look at some point when you have taken them off as they can be damaged
